Cost of living tops Spaniards' concerns, followed by corruption and housing issues

A new Target Point poll finds that most Spaniards see the cost of living as the country’s biggest problem, with political corruption and housing affordability trailing behind.

Target Point surveyed a representative sample of Spanish adults between 6 and 9 October 2026. Results indicate that the cost of living is viewed as the top national problem, with political corruption and housing acquisition ranking next. When asked why housing is so hard to obtain, 53% blame insufficient wages, while around a third blame purchases by funds and speculators.

Additional concerns include a lack of public housing, illegal occupation of homes, and the impact of tourist rentals. The poll also explored opinions on Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s decision to call early elections, with respondents offering varied motivations ranging from political strategy to legal pressures. The findings reflect widespread anxiety over economic pressures and the housing market across the political spectrum.

Why it matters

The poll highlights growing public frustration with inflation, corruption and housing, issues that could shape upcoming elections.
