Costco abruptly ends its Next marketplace, ending member discounts from third-party sellers
Costco has removed the Costco Next online marketplace, cutting off access to discounted products from external vendors without explanation.
Costco announced the sudden termination of its Costco Next online marketplace, ending a channel that let members purchase discounted goods from independent manufacturers and brands. First introduced in 2017 and broadened in 2021, the platform grew to include nearly 100 third-party sellers such as Anker, By Sophie, Caraway, E-Z UP, Gorilla Shed and Priority Bicycles before being shut down at the end of August 2026. The company replaced the storefront with a simple page stating that access is no longer available and provided a list of vendors with active return policies for customer assistance.
No reason for the abrupt closure was given, and Costco has not replied to media requests for comment. The decision arrives amid a series of recent changes, including the launch of Costco-branded Medicare plans developed with nonprofit insurer SCAN Group, which will be sold in select states and a limited supplement in a third. SCAN’s CEO Dr. Sachin Jain highlighted the partnership’s aim to make Medicare more integrated and accessible.
Why it matters
Members lose a popular discount channel, and the shutdown signals a shift in Costco’s digital strategy as it expands into Medicare services.
