Costco Limits Kirkland Synthetic Oil Purchases Amid Iran-War Energy Crunch
Costco has capped members to two packs of its Kirkland 5W-30 synthetic oil every week as the Iran conflict drives up energy costs.
Costco announced a new purchase limit on its Kirkland Signature 5W-30 full-synthetic motor oil, allowing members only two two-pack cases of five-quart bottles within any seven-day window. The price of a ten-quart package has risen to $58 from as low as $30. The rationing comes as the Iran war has tightened global oil supplies, pushing U.S. gasoline to about $4.31 per gallon and diesel to $6.23 per gallon, while a Brown University energy-cost tracker estimates the conflict has added over $100 billion in extra fuel expenses nationwide, averaging more than $750 per household.
A California attorney warned the move could hint at deeper supply chain issues, and a recent poll showed most Americans oppose the war’s costs. Costco has not explained the policy, and the retailer was contacted for comment.
