Couple sentenced to 17 years for manslaughter and poisoning in drug-spiking scheme

At Oxford Crown Court, Adina Mihai and Madalin Dumitru were each handed 17 years in prison after admitting to manslaughter and to two separate offences of administering poison. The scheme involved Mihai posing as a sex worker and arranging meetings with men who paid for services advertised online, after which the couple spiked the victims' alcoholic drinks with the powerful sedative gamma-butyrolactone. The toxic drink led to the deaths of Gary Mouat, 36, from Oxfordshire, and Malcolm King, 80, from Gloucestershire.
Two additional victims survived the poisoning, though their identities remain protected by reporting restrictions. The court heard the pair used the drug to facilitate theft from the men. The convictions cover incidents that occurred in 2024 and 2025.
