Couple sentenced to suspended jail terms for abusing children and dog
A husband and wife received 18-month suspended sentences after being convicted of multiple emotional and physical abuses toward their children, including forcing a child to hit the family dog and threatening them with a knife.
In a ruling by the Chuncheon District Court, a married couple was convicted of repeated emotional and physical abuse of their children and sentenced to 18 months in jail, suspended for three years. The court also placed them on probation and mandated 40 hours of lectures on preventing similar crimes. The husband, 47, forced his 9-year-old daughter to hit the family dog after it bit him and later put the dog on an induction stove while the children observed.
The wife, 38, berated the children for leaving a heater on, told them they would not exist, and threatened them with a knife. Both parents were previously investigated for child abuse and were also charged with assaulting their oldest child in 2022, when the father pretended to slit the boy’s wrist and the mother struck him with a backscratcher. The court cited the prior investigations and the repeated, severe nature of the offenses when determining the suspended sentences.
