Court challenges presidential decree naming Siegfried Mureșan as prime-ministerial candidate

The Association of Italians in Romania filed a legal action at the Bucharest Court of Appeal to overturn the presidential decree that named Siegfried Mureșan as the candidate for prime minister. The suit targets the Presidential Administration and the Autonomous Authority of the Official Gazette as defendants and is recorded under case number 6038/2/2026 in the IX-th Administrative and Fiscal Section. The decree, signed by President Nicușor Dan, granted Mureșan the authority to seek a confidence vote from Parliament and to propose a cabinet, following constitutional procedures.

The association, founded in 1993 and recognized as a public utility organization, argues that the decree should be annulled. The court case is now in the substantive phase, focusing solely on the legality of the presidential act, not on any appointment to the premiership itself.
