Court Finds No Documentation of Vice President Gibran's Studies in Singapore or Australia
During a constitutional court hearing on the 2024 presidential election dispute, education attachés confirmed no records of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka's schooling in Singapore or Australia.
In an evidentiary hearing for the 2024 presidential election result dispute, the Constitutional Court summoned education officials from Indonesia's missions in Singapore and Australia. Both attachés, Nur Aini Ariyanti and Yuli Rahmawati, testified that exhaustive searches of their archives yielded no documents confirming Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka's attendance at Orchid Park Secondary School, MDIS, or UTS Insearch.
The hearing focuses on Gibran's Educational Equivalency Certificate, granted by the Ministry of Education and Culture in August 2019, which equates his overseas studies to an Indonesian vocational high-school diploma. Petitioners, led by Denny Indrayana and Bonatua Silalahi, claim the certificate lacks evidence of a completed senior high school and was issued in under 24 hours, contrary to standard procedures. They have submitted roughly 160 items of evidence across multiple sessions. The court continues to examine the legitimacy of Gibran's vice-presidential candidacy.
Why it matters
The case questions the validity of the vice president's qualifications, potentially affecting the 2024 election outcome.
