Court hands 25-year prison term to Spišská Stará Ves school attacker
A court in Spišská Stará Ves sentenced the gymnasium attacker Straška to 25 years in prison, despite prosecutors and victims demanding life imprisonment.
In the trial of the gymnasium attacker in Spišská Stará Ves, the prosecution and victims' side sought a life-long deprivation of liberty, describing the act as cold-blooded and meticulously planned. Defense counsel Ľuboš Dobrovič countered with a plea for a 15-year sentence, emphasizing the defendant’s young age, immaturity and potential for reform. The specialized criminal court rejected both extremes, imposing a 25-year prison term and opting for outpatient psychiatric care rather than inpatient confinement.
Straška claimed he could not recognize faces during the attack and later contemplated suicide in a forest before being captured. The verdict is not yet final and may be appealed to the Supreme Court.
