Cowboy rescues runaway bull that blocked California highway for hours
A loose bull halted traffic on Highway 35 in San Mateo County until an experienced ranch foreman intervened and secured the animal.
A large bull escaped onto Highway 35 on Tuesday night, forcing California Highway Patrol and San Mateo County sheriff's deputies to manage a dangerous traffic obstruction that lasted for hours. Repeated efforts to rope the animal proved ineffective, prompting officials to seek the assistance of Samuel Ramos Palomino, the foreman of Sea Horse Ranch. Palomino, who was awakened shortly after midnight, drove to the scene with a truck and livestock trailer, working alongside law-enforcement officers to lasso and secure the bull.
He then transported the animal to a secure location and held it until it could be returned to its home at daybreak. Local officials, including Coastside Patrol Bureau Captain Allen and the Half Moon Bay city manager, later thanked Palomino for his skill and quick action, noting that his involvement likely prevented a serious collision. The identity of the bull’s owner and the cause of its escape remain unknown.
