Cowboys face tough roster choices as Pickens and Lamb vie for top spot

The Dallas Cowboys own two high-performing wideouts: veteran CeeDee Lamb, who wears the storied No. 88, and rising star George Pickens, who is currently on a franchise tag for 2026. Pickens’ recent play has drawn considerable attention, and he is expected to seek a long-term contract after the season. Retaining both players could strain the salary cap, especially if Pickens receives a sizable deal, leading some fans to suggest choosing one over the other.

Trading Lamb would generate dead-money penalties of over $48 million in 2027, while a later move in 2028 would still leave a $31 million hit. Owner Jerry Jones has indicated confidence that the roster, including quarterback Dak Prescott and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, can be accommodated under the cap, though the dilemma remains unresolved.
