CPI leader says LDF will oppose ED probe into Vijayan's alleged payments

At a function in Thiruvananthapuram, CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam said he does not know all the specifics of the Enforcement Directorate's request to register a case against former Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his family in the CMRL payments matter. He reiterated that the CPI will follow the Left Democratic Front's policy of resisting what it sees as politically motivated actions by central agencies. The ED's letter to Kerala DGP Ravada A Chandrasekhar cites evidence that Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited transferred ₹2.78 crore to Exalogic Solutions, a now-defunct company owned by Vijayan's daughter Veena T, as alleged IT consultancy fees.

Viswam's remarks came a day after LDF convenor T P Ramakrishnan urged the CPI to state its position on the probe. The CPI, the second-largest partner in the LDF, has not yet issued a formal response. The dispute occurs amid internal LDF tensions over the deputy leader of opposition role in the Kerala Assembly.
