CPPIB and Brookfield launch $50 billion Maple Fund for Canadian infrastructure
The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Brookfield have created a $50 billion Maple Fund to finance large-scale infrastructure and strategic projects across Canada.
At a two-day investment summit, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Brookfield unveiled the $50 billion Maple Fund, designed to channel capital into complex, large-scale Canadian infrastructure and strategic industries. Each partner will commit up to $25 billion over a five-year period, with a minimum project size of $5 billion. Investment decisions require joint approval, and the structure allows either party to enlist third-party investors for individual projects.
CPPIB will provide its long-term investment expertise, while Brookfield will supply development and operational capabilities. Although specific projects have not yet been disclosed, officials highlighted the fund’s role in supporting Canada’s shift toward diversified trade and domestic sovereignty. The fund aims to generate predictable returns for the CPP, which manages assets for more than 22 million contributors and beneficiaries.
Why it matters
The fund could shape Canada's future infrastructure and affect the retirement savings of millions of CPP contributors.
