Crédit Agricole signs deal to acquire Germany's IKB Deutsche Industriebank

Crédit Agricole announced it has signed an agreement with Lone Star Funds to purchase all shares of German lender IKB Deutsche Industriebank.

Crédit Agricole disclosed that it has entered into an agreement with American private-equity firm Lone Star Funds to acquire all of the capital of IKB Deutsche Industriebank, a German lender focused on mid-cap companies. The move aims to give the French group an immediate foothold in Germany’s mid-size corporate segment, leveraging IKB’s established reputation with the Mittelstand and its experienced sector-specialist teams.

IKB, which employs around 600 people, currently serves a broad client base in Germany. The acquisition aligns with Crédit Agricole’s broader plan to expand its German operations, including a forthcoming universal banking offer for retail customers. The deal is slated for completion by the close of the second quarter of 2027.

Why it matters

The purchase expands Crédit Agricole’s reach in Germany, strengthening its position in the European mid-size corporate banking market.
