Creekstone unveils Gigawater concept to turn natural gas into water for Utah data center
Creekstone Energy announced a patent-pending Gigawater system that would convert Wyoming natural gas into water at its Delta Gigasite project in Utah.
Creekstone Energy introduced its Gigawater technology, which aims to produce water by burning methane and condensing the resulting vapor underground at the Delta Gigasite site in Millard County, Utah. The company plans to pipe natural gas from Wyoming to the site, where the exhaust will flow through rock layers above a waterproof mat that allows water to collect. In collaboration with the University of Utah, the first phase will verify the underlying chemistry and thermodynamic assumptions, while a later phase will design an experimental pilot.
Creekstone projects an annual output of roughly 4,000 acre-feet, claiming the facility will be water-positive and that the water could support irrigation, geothermal cycles, or even potable use after filtration. Critics note that this volume represents a small fraction of Utah’s total water supply, but state officials see the initiative as a potential model for water-conscious data center development in arid regions.
