Crunchyroll expands to car infotainment platforms via Appning app store

Anime streaming service Crunchyroll is now available through the Appning marketplace on many vehicle infotainment systems, with BMW already supporting it.

The anime streaming platform Crunchyroll announced that its content is now listed on the Appning app store, enabling playback on car infotainment systems from more than 40 manufacturers, including BMW, Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen Group, Mini, Lotus and SAIC Motor. BMW owners can already launch Crunchyroll directly from the vehicle’s screen, and the company says further brand integrations are forthcoming. A planned deployment for the Afeela 1, a Sony-Honda collaboration, will not occur after the two firms abandoned the project.

Crunchyroll emphasized that the service will be accessible in connected-car environments across Asia, Australia, Europe, India, Latin America and North America. As with other video apps, playback is restricted to periods when the car is parked to ensure driver safety. The move reflects a broader trend of streaming services entering automotive entertainment ecosystems.

Why it matters

It brings on-demand anime to drivers, expanding entertainment options in vehicles while highlighting safety-focused streaming limits.
