CSG becomes largest shareholder in Canadian space-tech firm MDA Space

Czechoslovak Group (CSG) acquired a stake that makes it the top shareholder of Canadian satellite maker MDA Space.

Czechoslovak Group disclosed that it has taken a controlling share in MDA Space, a Canadian producer of communication satellites and observation instruments, positioning CSG as the company's biggest shareholder. The group highlighted the strategic importance of space for defence, noting that communications, intelligence and decision-making increasingly rely on orbital assets. To support this expansion, CSG assembled a team of experts to oversee its space-industry activities.

The investment follows earlier minority stakes secured through CSG's venture fund Tech Horizons in firms such as SatVu and Atmos Space Cargo. CSG operates manufacturing sites across Europe, the United States, and India, employs over 14,000 people and reported revenues of several billion euros last year. Its shares trade on the Amsterdam and Prague exchanges.

Why it matters

The deal signals a major European defence group expanding into the fast-growing space sector.
