CTM and Huawei Deploy World's First Integrated Quantum-Secure Communication Network
CTM and Huawei have launched an integrated quantum key distribution (QKD) communication network, aiming to protect critical services against quantum-computing attacks.
In response to the emerging threat of quantum computers breaking conventional encryption, CTM and Huawei unveiled the first integrated QKD-communication target network. The architecture fuses quantum key distribution, negotiation and data channels, creating a unified quantum-secure IP backbone for high-sensitivity applications such as governmental operations, banking and critical infrastructure. Poon Fuk Hei, CEO of CTM, described the deployment as a strategic move aligned with China’s five-year plan and Macau’s regional security needs.
Leon Wang, president of Huawei’s Data Communication Product Line, noted that Huawei’s earlier router with built-in QKD reduces total cost of ownership by over 60 percent, enhancing the network’s economic appeal. The collaboration will continue to develop bespoke quantum-secured private-line products and roll them out on live networks, leveraging Macau’s geographic position to drive broader adoption throughout the Greater Bay Area’s digital economy.
Why it matters
