Cursor unveils Origin, a new code-hosting service compatible with GitHub
AI startup Cursor, now part of SpaceXAI, launched Origin, a code-hosting platform that works alongside GitHub.
Cursor, an AI-focused company under SpaceXAI, announced the debut of Origin, a new platform for hosting code repositories, managing pull-requests and enabling collaborative development. Origin is built to interoperate with GitHub, letting users connect their GitHub accounts, select repositories and synchronize them with Cursor's service. While details remain sparse, Cursor said "agent native" features and a broader app ecosystem are forthcoming.
The timing of the launch matched a six-hour worldwide GitHub outage that saw a near-20 percent error rate. LeadDev reports that GitHub has experienced numerous outages this year, prompting some high-profile users to look for alternatives. Despite the challenges, GitHub still serves roughly 180 million developers, making competition a significant hurdle for Cursor.
