Cyberattack Disrupts Core Systems of the Fehmarn Tunnel Construction

The Fehmarn tunnel construction at Rødbyhavn has been hit by a cyber incident, affecting key systems and halting work on the multi-billion-euro project.

Sund & Bælt confirmed that the Fehmarn tunnel construction site in Rødbyhavn experienced a cyber incident. The attack disabled critical computer systems, leading to noticeable delays in the multi-billion-euro project. Officials said they are currently discussing the situation with FLC but have not released additional information.

Local newspaper Lolland-Falsters Folketidende noted that the disruption has concrete consequences for the work schedule. The tunnel, once finished, will connect Rødbyhavn in Denmark with Puttgarden in Germany, reducing train travel to seven minutes and car travel to ten minutes. Construction began in 2020 on the Danish side and in 2021 on the German side.

Why it matters

A cyber breach threatens the timeline and cost of a major cross-border infrastructure link between Denmark and Germany.
