Cyclist pulled into flood tunnel in Arizona; rescuer also swept downstream
A 20-year-old cyclist was dragged under a flooded bridge in Arizona and survived after rescuers pulled her out, while a helper was also carried away by the current.
A 20-year-old female cyclist tried to ride across a bridge in northeast Tucson when flash-flood waters surged, pulling her and her bicycle into a drainage tunnel. Video captured her struggling in a hole before being sucked beneath the water, and a nearby bystander who leapt in to help was likewise caught and swept roughly 100 feet downstream. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said deputies arrived, extracted the two women, and administered CPR until the cyclist regained consciousness.
Both were taken to a local hospital and listed as stable. The sheriff’s office emphasized that fast-moving water is extremely hazardous and urged residents to avoid crossing flooded washes in any manner.

The incident highlights the deadly risk of attempting to cross flood-swollen waterways, a common danger during monsoon season.
