Cyndi Lauper to Sing Live During First Nationwide 9/11 Tribute Broadcast

Cyndi Lauper will close a historic live television special honoring 9/11 victims and survivors, airing on Disney platforms at 8 p.m.

The September 11 Memorial & Museum announced that Cyndi Lauper will sing the closing segment of a first-ever live one outlet's broadcast honoring the attacks’ victims, survivors and first responders. The hour-long special will be streamed on Disney-associated platforms beginning at 8 p.m., timed with the yearly “Tribute in Light” display. Anchors David Muir, Robin Roberts and Diane Sawyer will host the event, which follows a pre-show titled “Paying Tribute: Live from Lower Manhattan” that will share stories of healing.

Throughout New York City’s five boroughs and many U.S. locations, buildings will illuminate their facades in blue to complement the installation. Lauper expressed gratitude for being part of the remembrance, recalling her own experience on the morning of the attacks. The broadcast aims to highlight both remembrance and the enduring resilience of affected communities.

Why it matters

The event unites a historic memorial with a major live broadcast, reaching a wide audience to honor 9/11 victims and promote collective healing.
