Cyprus President urges swift move to develop Aphrodite gas field with Chevron

During a meeting on Tuesday evening, President Nikos Christodoulides urged Chevron’s Base Assets and Emerging Countries chairman Javier la Rosa to move the Aphrodite gas field from the planning stage to concrete implementation, calling it a strategic priority for Cyprus. He noted that an approved development and production plan already exists and that both parties have made significant progress. The discussion covered technical and commercial work, as well as the next steps toward a final investment decision, with the aim of starting gas production as soon as possible.

The president also referenced the importance of energy cooperation with Egypt, citing the use of Egyptian pipelines to transport the gas. Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis reiterated the shared commitment to maintain momentum and said the project would boost Cyprus’s role in regional energy security and European planning.
