Czech charities rally to aid Nepal after deadly Himalayan floods
Czech NGOs have collected millions of crowns for flood victims in Nepal, where authorities report over 1,300 dead and thousands missing.
Severe flooding in Nepal, caused by a rockfall and partial collapse of a Himalayan glacier, has resulted in at least 1,399 confirmed deaths and about 5,170 people still missing, according to one outlet officials. In response, Czech charities organized a nationwide collection that has so far raised 41.2 million CZK for Člověk v tísni, which is also deploying a 14-person rescue unit to the hardest-hit areas. UNICEF's Czech branch reports receiving 2.5 million CZK to fund water, hygiene, medical care and child protection services.
ADRA has gathered roughly 1.9 million CZK and is distributing basic supplies and cholera vaccines. Charita's fund stands at 1.1 million CZK, supporting its partner Charita Nepal in mapping needs and sheltering displaced families. CARE contributed 357 000 CZK and plans to assist about 15 000 people in the coming months, while the Czech Red Cross has collected more than a quarter of a million CZK for broader international relief efforts. The combined aid aims to address immediate survival needs and strengthen disaster-risk reduction in Nepal.
