Czech entrepreneur Václav Fischer indicted in Germany for alleged Kurzarbeit fraud
Václav Fischer faces charges in Hamburg for multiple fraud schemes, including false Kurzarbeit applications and a bankrupt airline operation.
German prosecutors in Hamburg have charged Václav Fischer with repeatedly posing as the owner of a Hamburg-based travel agency to obtain illegal Kurzarbeit benefits and lump-sum social-insurance reimbursements for an employee in 17 cases, despite knowing the legal criteria were unmet. The indictment further cites three finished frauds intended to create a permanent revenue stream and 15 additional suspected offenses linked to a second company.
The alleged activities occurred between spring 2021 and August 2022. Fischer Air, the airline associated with him, is in insolvency, and its brand was acquired by Dertour (formerly DER Touristik) after the 2020 purchase of the Fischer Group. Authorities had previously issued a search for Fischer’s address, which he later disclosed; he lives in Prague. The case follows earlier reports of flight disruptions and the use of outdated promotional images by the airline.
