Czech gas reserves fall sharply ahead of winter after pivot to LNG
Czech gas storage levels are now considerably lower than in recent years as winter approaches, following the government's shift to liquefied natural gas.
When Russia invaded Ukraine, concerns grew that Europe would lack heating fuel in winter. The Czech government, led by Petr Fiala, responded by ending imports of Russian gas and turning to overseas LNG. Storage facilities filled quickly after the policy change, but current levels have dropped well below those seen in previous seasons.
