Czech government approves new security cooperation treaty with Poland
The Czech cabinet has adopted a fresh agreement with Poland to deepen cooperation on internal security matters.
The Czech government ratified a new bilateral security treaty with Poland, the Ministry of the Interior announced. The agreement authorises authorities to conduct operations on the partner state's soil in cases of imminent threat and simplifies the transit of officials for joint tasks. It adds provisions for faster identification of disaster victims and for coordinated responses to mass emergencies.
Enhanced powers also cover cross-border surveillance, monitoring of consignments and covert investigative work. The deal supersedes the previous 2006 police-cooperation treaty and earlier related accords. After signing, the text will be submitted to both chambers of the Czech Parliament for approval before reaching the president for final ratification.
Why it matters
It broadens cross-border police powers and emergency response between two neighboring EU members.
