Czech Gripen fighters dispatched to Poland to monitor NATO airspace amid Ukrainian drone activity

In response to reports of unmanned aerial vehicles operating over the western front of Ukraine, the Czech Republic sent two JAS-39 Gripen fighters from the Pardubice airbase to conduct air-space monitoring from Poland. The sortie was carried out under orders from NATO’s allied command, forming part of the alliance’s integrated air and missile defence architecture. The Czech aircraft patrolled the eastern border of Poland, a key segment of NATO’s defensive perimeter, before being relieved by Polish fighter jets.

Following the handover, the Gripens returned to Pardubice without any hostile contact. The Czech Ministry of Defence emphasized that the mission was strictly surveillance, with no combat action taken.
