Czech Gripen fighters patrol Polish skies as NATO air defence mission
Czech Gripen jets took off from Pardubice to conduct a Combat Air Patrol over Poland and returned safely without engaging any threat.
The Czech Republic’s military sent JAS-39 Gripen jets from the Pardubice airbase to carry out a Combat Air Patrol over Poland, reinforcing NATO’s integrated air-and-missile defence. Pilots were prepared to react to any breach of Polish airspace, yet the mission concluded without the need to fire weapons, and the aircraft returned safely to their home base. A comparable deployment occurred the previous week in response to heightened drone activity over western Ukraine, also ending without engagement.
Poland has recently logged several border-area incidents, including a drone crash near Jahodyn on the Ukrainian side and a Russian drone striking a passenger-train locomotive close to the frontier. These events highlight growing tension along NATO’s eastern flank.
