Czech interior minister announces 2,400-koruna salary boost for police and fire personnel
The Ministry of the Interior said security force members will receive a 2,400-koruna increase in their wage tables, with 500 koruna earmarked for overtime and standby duties.
Lubomír Metnar, minister of the interior, revealed that members of the Czech security forces will see their wage tables rise by 2,400 koruna, of which 500 koruna is designated for overtime and standby compensation. The figure exceeds the initially planned 1,300 koruna increase and reflects a compromise reached with trade union representatives after discussions that also involved Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and other government officials.
The deal applies to the year 2027 and includes a commitment to keep raising salaries for the next three years. Justice Minister Jeroným Tejc noted that the fixed-amount increase will benefit lower-paid employees the most. Union leaders described the outcome as a positive compromise, though they had originally sought a 2,600 koruna rise.
Why it matters
Higher pay for police and firefighters aims to improve recruitment and retention in essential public safety roles.
