Czech leaders and experts convene to evaluate extreme drought response
Prime Minister Andrej Babiš will join a meeting of the National Coalition for Combating Drought to review the severe drought and actions taken so far.
A gathering of the National Coalition for Combating Drought is scheduled for Monday, with Prime Minister Andrej Babiš participating alongside water-management experts. Delegates will examine the ongoing extreme drought, evaluate measures already taken, and plan additional actions. The session comes after the Husinec reservoir in South Bohemia became the first Czech dam to run dry, leading the South Bohemian Region to declare a drought emergency and gain flexibility over reservoir releases.
Water shortages have also been reported on the Vltava and Elbe rivers in Central Bohemia. Despite these issues, Petr Kubala, head of the Vltava River Basin Authority, confirmed that all reservoirs supplying drinking water remain sufficiently full, posing no immediate threat to supplies.
Why it matters
The meeting will shape how Czech authorities manage water resources amid a historic drought.
