Czech Republic's population slips slightly, nearing eleven million

Preliminary data from the Czech Statistics Office show a net decline of 12,200 people during the year's first six months. The drop resulted from more deaths than births, while migration partially offset the loss. Both births and deaths fell compared with the same period last year, but net immigration exceeded emigration. Over one million foreign nationals now reside in the country.
