Czech stations report surge in tropical days, Strážnice sets new local record

The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute reported that 2026 experienced 23 tropical days on average, the second-most recorded since 1961, surpassed only by 2015. Strážnice on the Hodonín plain set a new station record with 54 tropical days, the highest count for any Czech location. The highest-altitude station to log a tropical day was Klínovec (1,236 m), where temperatures hit 30.7 °C on 28 June.

The year also saw 18 super-tropical days (35 °C+) and five days with temperatures of 40 °C or higher, the first such occurrence in June, with Doksany registering the most at four. Additionally, 35 tropical nights (minimums above 20 °C) were recorded during the meteorological summer, with a few more at the start of September.
