DA Bicol rolls out major aid package for farmers and fishers ahead of El Niño
The Department of Agriculture in Bicol announced a comprehensive assistance program for farmers and fisherfolk as the region prepares for an El Niño season later this year.
DA Bicol will provide a range of support measures, including crop-insurance payouts, irrigation improvements, certified rice seeds and farm machinery. The package is aimed at mitigating the expected drought impact on agriculture and fisheries. Information officer Lovella Guarin said the interventions target over two hundred thousand farmers across the region. The effort reflects the government's push to safeguard food production during the upcoming climate event.
Why it matters
The aid aims to shield Bicol's food producers from El Niño-driven drought, preserving livelihoods and regional food security.
