Dallas Wings announce season-ending knee surgery for top draft pick Azzi Fudd
The Dallas Wings said rookie Azzi Fudd will undergo arthroscopic surgery on her right knee, ending her debut WNBA season.
The Dallas Wings revealed that Azzi Fudd, the top overall pick in April’s rookie draft, will undergo arthroscopic surgery on her right knee, which will end her rookie campaign. Fudd’s last appearance came on Aug. 5 versus the Washington Mystics, and she had already missed the previous five games. Her knee issues date back to two ACL ruptures in 2019 and 2023, along with additional soreness and a sprain between 2022 and 2024.
Despite these setbacks, she helped the UConn Huskies win the 2025 NCAA title and reach the 2026 Final Four, and she claimed the All-Star Weekend 3-Point Contest. The Wings, currently on a slump with seven losses in ten games and holding the eighth seed, now face the challenge of coping without their promising newcomer. The team will need to address the gap left by Fudd’s absence as the season progresses.
Why it matters
Fudd’s injury removes a key player from a struggling team, affecting its playoff chances and highlighting ongoing knee health concerns.
