Danaher to debut AI-driven autonomous lab for faster drug discovery by 2027
Danaher announced it will roll out its first AI-powered autonomous research laboratory in early 2027 to accelerate drug discovery and development.
Danaher revealed that its inaugural autonomous research lab, slated for early 2027, will combine AI, robotics and technologies from multiple Danaher subsidiaries into a unified process for creating custom antibodies and other molecular tools. By automating design, synthesis and testing, the lab is projected to make molecule discovery eight times faster and boost the yearly output of target-binding compounds by a factor of ten.
JC Gutierrez-Ramos explained that this will free scientists to focus on the nuanced scientific challenges where human judgment is essential. The AI continuously refines its models using results from each test, improving subsequent designs. The initiative is part of a broader Danaher program to build a fleet of intelligent instruments across its portfolio.
Why it matters
The lab could dramatically shorten drug development timelines, lowering costs and expanding therapeutic options.
