Daniel Tupou retires after winning fourth premiership with the Roosters

Long-time wing Daniel Tupou announced his retirement following the Sydney Roosters' grand final triumph over Newcastle, ending a 15-year career.

After 15 seasons and 307 appearances, Daniel Tupou announced his retirement immediately following the Sydney Roosters' grand final win over Newcastle, which delivered his fourth premiership. He leaves as the Roosters' record try-scorer, finishing with 198 tries after overtaking Anthony Minichiello in 2023 and becoming the first to hit 150 club tries the following year. Tupou reflected on his gratitude for the club, his faith, and the lifelong friendships built during his career, which began with a debut against Canberra in round 24 of 2024.

Coach Trent Robinson described Tupou as a consistent, selfless player who revolutionised the team's high-ball play and earned deep respect from teammates and staff. The Roosters now face a winger vacancy after Mark Nawaqanitawase's return to rugby union, though they have recently extended Tommy Talau's contract.

Why it matters

Tupou's retirement marks the end of an era for a club legend who helped shape the Roosters' recent success.
