Danish Grower Sets New Nordic Giant Pumpkin Record at 1.2 Tonnes
Peter Holst Olsen from Næstved won the Danish giant pumpkin championship with a 1,198-kilogram fruit, establishing a new Nordic record.
At the annual giant pumpkin contest in Copenhagen’s Tivoli, Peter Holst Olsen of Næstved claimed victory for the third year running, presenting a pumpkin that weighed 1,198 kilograms. The fruit was roughly 850 kilograms heavier than the second-place entry, creating a new Danish and Nordic benchmark. Olsen noted the reduced light during the growth period but remained proud of the achievement. He highlighted the prize money, which he has already allocated to a new microscope. One outlet world record, set in England, remains just out of reach, and Olsen intends to target it in future attempts.
Why it matters
The record highlights advances in horticultural techniques and growing interest in specialty agricultural competitions.
