DAP urges Attorney-General to justify dropping part of Muhyiddin prosecution

DAP chairman Gobind Singh Deo called on the Attorney-General to provide a detailed rationale for his decision to drop part of the criminal case against former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. Singh Deo emphasized that when charges are brought, the prosecution is expected to have thoroughly assessed the evidence and that any shift in that assessment should be transparently explained to the public. He cautioned that terminating a high-profile prosecution midway, without a clear justification, could severely undermine public trust in both the Attorney-General’s office and the broader criminal justice system.

The request follows a High Court decision that acquitted Muhyiddin of four of seven Jana Wibawa-related charges and resulted in a discharge and acquittal on one bribery allegation and three money-laundering charges after the prosecution sought a discharge without acquittal. Judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin issued the ruling after considering both the prosecution’s application and the defence’s request for a full acquittal.
