A grocery shop owner, aged 45, and his two brothers were taken into custody in Darjeeling district following allegations that they repeatedly raped a 13-year-old girl. The family lodged a report at Phansidewa police station after the child became ill and disclosed the assaults to her mother. Authorities claim the perpetrators recorded the crimes and used the videos to extort the victim, also threatening her life.
Medical examination verified the girl’s pregnancy. Community anger led to the shop being vandalised, and police were sent to the area to manage the unrest. The accused were remanded by a local court and placed in police custody.
