Dark-money concerns rise as hard-right group attends Scottish anti-asylum rally
Investigative reporting links the Great British PAC, a shadow-funded right-wing group, to an anti-asylum protest in Falkirk, sparking worries about opaque financing of hard-right activism in Scotland.
A probe by The Ferret revealed that members of the Great British PAC, an organization modeled on U.S. political action committees, attended an anti-asylum protest at Falkirk’s former Cladhan Hotel. The PAC’s senior staff includes individuals with past ties to extremist content and an anti-Islam campaigner who has publicly called for a “good versus evil” stance. While the group claims to operate within UK legal requirements and to reject racism, antisemitism, religious hatred and political violence, it has not disclosed its donors and has not ruled out foreign contributions.
Scottish politicians and democracy advocates warn that such “dark and opaque” funding could distort the political landscape. The PAC maintains that donor privacy differs from unlawful financing and that any required disclosures will be made if legally mandated.
