Darmanin proposes parents pay repair costs for school blockade damage
Justice minister Gérald Darmanin said prosecutors should pursue civil claims against parents for damages caused by their children during school blockade protests.
Darmanin announced that prosecutors are to seek civil liability from parents for repair expenses after vandalism at numerous schools. He noted that around 2,000 people have been detained, about 90% of whom are minors, and a third of those arrested faced charges for violence against persons. The measure aims to make families financially responsible for the destruction linked to the demonstrations.
Why it matters
It could shift the financial burden of protest damage onto families, influencing future participation and public order.
