DataVita secures £300 million to expand Scottish AI datacenters as Dell opens regional office

DataVita obtained a £300 million loan to enlarge its Airdrie datacenter and build a new site, while Dell set up a regional office in Lanarkshire's AI Growth Zone.

DataVita, the operator of a server farm in Airdrie, Lanarkshire, has closed a £300 million debt facility provided by a consortium of ING, ABN AMRO, Santander, the Scottish National Investment Bank and Siemens Financial Services, with a £202 million guarantee from the UK’s National Wealth Fund. The financing will fund the expansion of the existing DV1 datacenter to 40 MW and the construction of a new DV3 facility, also at 40 MW, with work slated for completion by year-end for DV1 and summer 2027 for DV3.

The projects are expected to generate around 600 construction jobs and about 100 permanent, highly-skilled roles, and CoreWeave has already signed a 15-year lease for the capacity. Meanwhile, Dell Technologies is establishing a regional office at Mercury House within the AI Innovation Park, adding a corporate presence to the AI Growth Zone that the government launched to spur AI-related economic growth. Managing director Danny Quinn highlighted the rapid shift in datacenter investment, and UK AI minister Kanishka Narayan said the developments will keep Scotland at the forefront of AI innovation and create new skills and career opportunities.

Why it matters

The investment boosts AI infrastructure and high-skill jobs in Scotland, strengthening the region’s tech economy.
