Dave Shondell eclipses Gene Keady with 513th win as Purdue tops Texas A&M
Dave Shondell recorded his 513th career victory, overtaking Gene Keady, as Purdue volleyball defeated Texas A&M 3-0 in the Big Ten/SEC Challenge.
On the opening night of the Big Ten/SEC Challenge, Purdue’s volleyball team beat No. 12 Texas A&M 3-0, handing coach Dave Shondell his 513th career win and breaking former basketball coach Gene Keady’s record for most victories by any Purdue coach, a milestone observed by Keady himself. The victory increased Shondell’s overall winning percentage to.681 and continued his teams’ unbeaten streak in first-round NCAA tournament games.
Purdue was without All-American outside hitter Kenna Wollard, who sat out with an unspecified medical condition. The 68-year-old Shondell, a Muncie native who arrived at Purdue in 2003, recently agreed to a four-year contract extension. The game was played at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette.
