David Byrne crafts Elon Musk quote-only song for upcoming critical documentary
David Byrne has written and performed a new track composed entirely of Elon Musk quotations for Alex Gibney’s forthcoming documentary.
David Byrne teamed up with composer Daniel Pemberton to write "Let Me Sell You A Dream," a song whose lyrics consist exclusively of quotes from Elon Musk. The track will feature throughout Alex Gibney’s upcoming 235-minute documentary that examines Musk’s career and controversies. Byrne described the process as pulling “extremely hard-core, foot-tapping sardonic poetry” straight from Musk’s own words.
Gibney praised the collaboration, noting that Byrne’s involvement adds a musical dimension to the film’s narrative. The documentary, which some describe as scathing, is scheduled to debut next month, and the song has been entered for the Best Original Song Oscar at the 2027 ceremony.
