Dead man discovered on New Taipei bus after weekend; operator fined NT$30,000

A man who boarded a Sindian Bus in Xindian District on Thursday night was discovered dead on the vehicle on Sunday after another passenger alerted the driver. Police confirmed the body showed no signs of injury and have ruled out foul play pending an autopsy ordered by the Taipei District Prosecutors Office. Surveillance shows the bus stayed at its terminal over the Moon Festival weekend, and the driver, identified only as Chen, did not notice the passenger before closing the doors.

Sindian Bus President Kao Tsan-huang said the driver missed the man and will cooperate with investigators, while the Taipei City Public Transportation Office imposed a NT$30,000 fine for inadequate bus-clearing procedures under the Highway Act. Chen has been suspended from driving duties, and the company pledged to enhance driver training and disinfect the bus before it returns to service.
