The Ministry of Defence signed contracts totaling roughly ₹4,106 crore to procure the GSAT-7C communication satellite for the Indian Air Force and Varunastra heavyweight torpedoes for the Indian Navy.
On Thursday, the Ministry of Defence finalized two major procurement contracts worth about ₹4,106 crore. The first, a ₹2,563 crore deal with Bengaluru-based New Space India Limited, will deliver the indigenously designed GSAT-7C communication satellite, enhancing secure and resilient communications for the Indian Air Force. The second contract, valued at ₹1,543 crore, was signed with state-owned Bharat Dynamics Limited for Varunastra heavyweight torpedoes, which can be launched from ships and submarines, travel up to 40 knots, and have a range of roughly 40 km.
The torpedo, introduced into service in 2016, is intended to boost the Navy's anti-submarine warfare capabilities. Together, the deals are expected to improve the IAF's dedicated communications network and the Navy's ability to counter submarine threats in the region.
