Defence Secretary urges UK families to stockpile nine emergency supplies

Defence Secretary Wes Streeting appeared on television to stress the importance of personal preparedness for emergencies. Citing a series of recent incidents such as wildfires, severe heat and potential flooding, he urged every UK household to compile a nine-item emergency kit. The kit should include a torch, matches or candles, medication for several days, food, water, a first-aid kit and other essentials, stored in an easily reachable location.

Streeting linked the advice to the government's "Prepare" campaign, which calls for a national dialogue on resilience and readiness. He warned that disruptions to fuel supplies from overseas conflicts could further strain households. The message aims to encourage citizens to think proactively about power cuts, water shortages and other possible crises.
