Defense lawyer suggests surviving witness may be responsible for Bogie triple murder

At the ongoing Supreme Court trial in Townsville, defense attorney Anthony J. Kimmins asserted that Ross Tighe, the only person to survive the August 4, 2022 incident at Darryl Valroy Young's Bogie cattle station, could be the actual shooter. The prosecution alleges Young killed Mervyn and Maree Schwarz and their son Graham Tighe, while Tighe claims he witnessed the killings and was injured, though his wound was described as shrapnel rather than a.30-30 bullet.
Kimmins challenged the plausibility of Young shooting three victims and then sparing an injured Tighe, suggesting the survivor might have fired the gun himself. He also referenced cartridge evidence and a wind-farmer alibi that places Young away from the gate at the time. The court has heard video footage from a wind-farmer recorded at 8:04 am, about six kilometres from the gate. Crown prosecutors will present their closing address to the jury later this week.
