Delaware Holds Final 2026 Primary as Senate Incumbent Coons Faces Three Democratic Challengers
Delaware voters went to the polls Tuesday for the last state primary before the 2026 midterms, deciding races including U.S. Senate, House, attorney general and an open treasurer seat.
Tuesday’s Delaware primary, the last scheduled before the 2026 midterms, determined the nominees for U.S. Senate, U.S. House, attorney general, state treasurer and numerous legislative seats. Incumbent Democrat Senator Chris Coons is pursuing a third full term and will appear on the ballot with three intra-party opponents: University of Delaware historian Jeff Appelhans, naval architect Mary Louve, and former Republican Senate nominee Eric Hansen, who is running under the moniker “E. No-Trump Hansen.”
Rep. Sarah McBride seeks a second term in the House without opposition, while Attorney General Kathy Jennings contends with Dwayne Bensing and domestic-violence advocate Patty Rickman. The treasurer’s office is open as Colleen Davis steps down, prompting a Democratic contest among Ted Lauzen, Mike Miller and Michael Smith. Early voting has produced roughly 30,800 ballots, with about 22,200 Democratic and 8,500 Republican votes already counted.
