Delhi adds nearly 3,000 bus marshals and launches women-only buses for safety
Delhi's government has placed 2,947 bus marshals on DTC buses and started 56 women-only routes, some staffed by armed female police after 5 pm.
The Delhi government has deployed 2,947 bus marshals across its public transport fleet and introduced 56 dedicated women’s buses, 15 of which run during the evening shift with armed female police officers deployed after 5 pm. Every bus is now integrated into a Bus Management System that provides panic alarms, continuous CCTV monitoring and GPS oversight from a control centre. The Department of Women and Child Development will soon add housing facilities for working women in Vishwas Nagar and Rohini.
Child welfare initiatives include functioning Child Welfare Committees, Juvenile Justice Boards, and the appointment of Sub-Divisional Magistrates as Child Marriage Prohibition Officers, supported by roughly 1.5 lakh school CCTV cameras and self-defence programmes in 1,397 schools. Road safety upgrades feature 96,000 new streetlights and a total of 2,53,983 operational CCTV cameras, with a toll-free helpline (1908) and online portal for citizen complaints.
